Frequently Asked Questions
What towbar will suit my car?
The compatibility of a Towbar with your car depends on the specific details of your vehicle. Not all cars have multiple Towbar options, and in some cases, a Towbar may not be available at all. To determine the suitable Towbar for your car, we would need information such as the make, model, year, and body shape of your vehicle. Once we have these details, we can provide you with the available Towbar options that are compatible with your car. Additionally, it is crucial to consider the towing capacity of both your vehicle and the Towbar to ensure that you stay within the recommended limits. You can find the towing capacity information in your car's owner's handbook. Always remember to follow the prescribed limits specified by your vehicle and Towbar for safe towing.
Can you modify a towbar?
No. Under legislation towbars must NOT be altered or modified in any way. They must also be fitted in accordance with manufacturers instructions. Must meet Australian compliance.
Is it illegal for my number plate to be obstructed by the towbar?
Under QLD law, number plates cannot be obstructed by any part of the vehicle including towbars and balls. In some instances this may require removable of the tongue or hitch and in the case of a bike carrier a special number plate can be issued by QLD Transport
Do I require electric brakes?
In order to adhere to national road regulations, trailers weighing over 750kg, which includes the trailer and its load, must be equipped with brakes. If a trailer has electric brakes, it requires a brake controller to engage and control the trailer brakes. By pressing the brake pedal in the vehicle, the brake controller determines the timing and intensity of the power delivered to the trailer brakes.
